In an attempt to address my infrequent blog posting I have been thinking of more things that I can write about. I mean to say, there is no rule that says my blog has to only be about this site, that might well get tedious. I do do other things you know. Granted those other things are mainly yarn and/or book related with occasional bouts of photography (now that I have something other than my phone to do that with). So without further ado here is a photograph of some yarn: I’ve not bought variegated yarn before and I’m not sure what I’m going to make with it yet. The pinkish/purplish (top right) one is especially tricky as that was the last ball the shop had so it’ll have to be for something small. I keep thinking that I want to knit a blanket but have you seen the size of them?! They are massive! I fear I have not got the necessary patience for it. I can’t even manage a sweater without abandoning it halfway through. Shawls I can do though, here is my latest: I think that will be my fourth shawl (free pattern) and I’ve earmarked some of the green lace yarn for another. I only have about 70-odd shawls favourited on Ravelry so I should be able to find a suitable one.
Hurray an entirely frivolous post! Good, I’ll probably do more of the same. TTFN Ok, I know I haven't posted anything for an age, I'm lazy what ya gonna do? Anyway, I'm here now and I come bearing gifts! Yay! I have made printable tags for Valentine's Day related papercrafts. There is a mixture of vintage images, Victorian scraps and other jiggery-pokery that I threw in to make it more interesting. They are 5cmx7cm and will fit in a large tag punch (which is why they are 5cmx7cm). Or just cut them out as they are, you can round the corners off, use deckle edged scissors whatever you prefer - no judgement here ;) I made three pages each with nine tags, I have uploaded them as JPEG images this time rather than PDF files, if anyone could let me know whether this is better or not I would appreciate it. As ever, go to the downloadables page and click on the image you want to download, you will be whooshed to the box site where all the printables live.
Hope you like them. TTFN I have finally finished the Hallowe'en labels for downloading! I know, they have taken aages, who knew they would be so difficult? After much resizing, altering of fonts, chuntering and swearing (oh, so much swearing) they are done. There are two A4 pages with four labels on each. Simply go to the downloadables page, click on the image and you will be taken to a magical place where you can download the stuff! Yay! I think I might re-label the contents of my spice rack :) I'll be working on some witchy beauty product labels next.
TTFN I may be judging people by my own standards but I think that everyone likes free stuff. If you don't then I really don't think we can be friends....go on, be off with you....shoo. Right that's got rid of the oddballs, where was I? Yes! Free things! Well, Hallowe'en is on the horizon and you're going to want to be making stuff amirite? (Yes is the answer). So I spent the entire weekend, when I wasn't following the darts in Germany, so almost the entire weekend making some Hallowe'en tags for printing off, cutting or punching out and sticking to things. Hurray! I made two styles, vintage and erm not-vintage (sorry I can't English today). These are the vintage style tags. Lovely old images of witches, skeletons and a rather odd pumpkin army on the march. These are the others. They are available to download via the link on the left, click on the image you want and another window will take you right to the download. The download is in PDF file format so you will need Adobe reader to open it (which is free to download from Adobe). There were too many downloads in that paragraph :/ I have a bunch of Hallowe'en labels to work on now so
TTFN! As regular visitors will have already guessed, I am keen on making paper beads - no really. I have made literally thousands of them, and I know how to use the word literally properly. I like to experiment with different papers and shapes, which has left me with some oddities to try and use up, mainly the larger tube shaped beads. These on the left are an example. They are good for showing off patterned papers as they have a large surface area, however, not so easy to wear. I have made some into earrings, but was at a loss as to what else to do with them, their length makes them tricky. Browsing Pinterest (go on, follow me, you know you want to) the other night I saw a pendant made from a piece of china crockery and an idea struck me. Single bead as a pendant, with extras of course. A china pattern bead with chains and crystals. I sketched it out and then set to the next day. The bead sits just in the hollow where the collar bones meet. I liked it so much I immediately made another one, this time in a brighter colour. I love this one, lime green and black is my current favourite colour combination. Sadly this one used up what little silver chain I had so until I get some more there is just the two of them. I did have some scraps of other chain so I made a vertical tubular pendant; this one needs a chain necklace to hang from I think, the suede thonging just wouldn't suit it. Then I thought that the single bead and suede combo would work for bracelets; these wouldn't need the chain which would probably get in the way and be a nuisance. I wanted to try some paper rings, so I made a couple of really wide disc shaped beads, added buttons and attached to ring bases. The ring on the left is more of a saucer shape, it is thinner at the edge than in the centre. The right hand ring is the same depth all the way along. They look quite substantial on but being made of paper they weigh next to nothing. They would work equally well as brooches.
Now I have an excuse to make even more beads :D TTFN I've been having something of a hiatus from blogging and the stress of producing new jewellery all the time. It becomes a bit of a chore if I feel that I have to be doing it all the time, and if there's one thing I cannot be doing with it's chores. I have taken up knitting again, however, with a vengeance. It is a good way of occupying idle hands so that they do not get up to mischief. Most of my knitted projects can be found on my Ravelry projects page if anyone is interested. I am currently in the last throes of knitting a shawl and already plotting which hats I am going to cast on as soon as I've finished it. I have quite a mania for hats and being relatively quick to knit I don't get bored halfway through, which is always a consideration when you've a short attention span. I had to have a trip to the A&E department of my local hospital last week after I keeled over whilst waiting for a bus and sustained quite a wallop to my head. I've no idea why it happened, one minute I was leaning all casual like against the bus stop and the next I was on the ground and surrounded by concerned onlookers. My glasses had broken and contrived to take a rather substantial chunk of flesh out of my face which required stitches. I was told that there would probably be a scar, which I thought might make me look badass, but actually there is very little scarring, so I shall have to continue to wear my badass on the inside.
